Launch of India Writing

Welcome to the India Writing community, this is LiveJournal’s first dedicated project for India.

The India Writing community is a global forum which aims to bring together Indian writers, across geographies, genres and forms. India Writing will support web users who share a passion for creative writing and who want to use LiveJournal to widen their audience and raise their profile.

To kick-start the community we’re launching today a writing contest in partnership with Caferati, one of India’s best-known online literary communities. We’ve called the contest Quick Tales - the LiveJournal Flash-Fiction Contest. All you need to do is craft a short story, no more than 500 words which has as its theme “journal”. The story needs to include everything you would expect from a longer tale just shorter and swifter. Think of Flash Fiction as being to 20-Twenty what the novel is to a Test Match!

Just like the IPL we’re also offering a decent set of prizes. The top tales selected by our judges will take home cash prizes of Rs. 19999, Rs. 16000 and Rs 12000, Rs. 8000 and Rs. 4000, respectively. Each of the 100 shortlisted entries will also be highlighted right here. Short-listed stories may also be featured in a book that LiveJournal plans to publish at a later date.

The contest has been timed to coincide with India's Independence Day, and we’ll look to take India celebrations across continents with LiveJournal’s home page marking events in India, cross-promotion across LiveJournal and outreach with Caferati and their forums.

There is much more to say but, like our contest, we want to keep things brief. Click here to find out more and get involved.

And of course, do remember to join this community, along with the official LiveJournal India community, lj_india.
